The electrical and electronics industry – a mainstay of the Austrian economy

The electrical and electronics industry plays a key role in the Austrian economy. Employing a workforce of around 59,000 , the industry is the second biggest industrial employer in the country. As a highly export-oriented industry (around 2/3 of  products are exported to 150 countries across the globe) the companies have an above-average involvement in the international economy. The companies in the electrical and electronics industry also make a major contribution to the innovative power of the country and account for one third of the industrial R&D spend in Austria.
